Vision

A direction, written in the open.

This is an evergreen statement of intent. It will be revised as we listen, test and learn.

Current stage: Concept & collaboration design

Why

Knowledge is unevenly shared.

Some of the most useful knowledge about how to cope with change sits in places that rarely talk to each other: a university lab, an engineering team, a head teacher's notebook, a community organiser's memory.

When disruption comes, whether a storm, an outage or a slow social shift, the people with the fewest resources are often the last to benefit from what is known. We think that gap is worth working on.

Mission

What we hope to do.

To bring universities, industry, researchers and communities together around emerging challenges, support learning, and turn ideas into meaningful, openly shared outcomes for society.

Guiding principles

How we intend to work.

  1. 01

    Open by default

Methods, findings and failures are shared publicly unless there is a clear reason, such as privacy, not to.

  2. 02

    Independent

Questions and conclusions are not shaped by whoever funds or contributes to the work.

  3. 03

    Grounded

Communities and practitioners help define problems, not just receive solutions.

  4. 04

    Honest about uncertainty

We say what we do not know, and we report what did not work.

  5. 05

    Small before large

Pilots come before programmes; evidence comes before scale.

Challenges

Not only crises. Ordinary life, too.

Our focus is not on any single conflict or catastrophe. It is on the disruptions and inequalities that shape ordinary lives.

Everyday disruption

Outages, extreme weather, transport failures and the slow erosion of services that people rely on.

Unequal access

Gaps in who can reach learning, information, care and opportunity, which disruptions often widen.

Social challenges

Isolation, exclusion and the strain on community institutions that hold places together.

Long-term progress

The patient, unglamorous work of building knowledge that lasts beyond a single project or news cycle.

From signal to outcome

How signals become evidence, and evidence becomes outcomes.

  1. 01

    Start from a signal

An observation, a pattern, or a concern raised by people close to the problem.

  2. 02

    Frame a fair question

Specific enough to test, open enough not to presume the answer.

  3. 03

    Gather mixed evidence

Combine data, practitioner experience and community voice.

  4. 04

    Test in small pilots

Learn at a scale where mistakes are cheap and honest.

  5. 05

    Publish openly

Share methods, findings and failures so others can scrutinise and build on them.

Roadmap

An evolving direction.

These stages describe intent, not achievements. Only the first is under way.

  1. Now · in progress

    Define & Listen

    • — Articulate the vision and principles in public
    • — Hold early conversations with prospective collaborators
    • — Evaluate legal structure, governance and registration options
  2. Next · planned

    Co-design & Pilot

    • — Co-design first programme pilots with interested partners
    • — Establish independent governance before any funded activity
    • — Publish the first public learning notes
  3. Later · future

    Learn & Scale

    • — Review pilots openly and decide what deserves to grow
    • — Extend to further areas of exploration
    • — Report progress against a published impact method

Help shape what this becomes.
